Coming into the title game on Monday night, the Gonzaga Bulldogs sit as a 5 point favorite over Baylor. Let’s take a closer look at both teams and how they arrive to this affair so you can bet against their College Basketball National Championship odds.

Last Minute Game Odds: #1 Baylor vs #1 Gonzaga – April 5th

Bears Up for the Challenge

Head Coach Scott Drew knows his Baylor Bears are ready for the challenge. The Bears are 27-2 on the season, with a loss to Kansas following their COVID-19 pause, and also in the Big 12 tournament to Oklahoma State. That’s it. Those are the only two blemishes on the Bears slate. In the NCAA Tournament, the Bears have taken care of Hartford, Wisconsin, Villanova, Arkansas and Houston by an average of 15 points per game.

The top scorer for the Bears during the season has been Jared Butler. Butler is one of three guys scoring double digits per game. He is averaging 16.6 per game. In the most recent win over Houston, Butler led the way with 17, while Davion Mitchell and Matthew Mayer added 12 each. The Bears do most things well, but their ability to knock down shots is one of the best in the country. In fact, Baylor is the top three point shooting team in College Basketball, making over 41% of them.

The Bears can also defend. The tournament has seen them put the clamps down, holding 4 out of their 5 opponents to 64 points or less. The lone time they did not, Arkansas scored 72 points on them in the Elite 8.

Bulldogs Needed Heroics

The win on Saturday over UCLA came in overtime, 93-90. Jalen Suggs hit a shot just inside half court to win the game, and avoid a second overtime. Instant Classic is the correct term for the win. The win was the 31st straight for Mark Few and his Bulldogs. Now, they will face the toughest test of them all – the Baylor Bears.

In the NCAA Tournament, the Bulldogs have wins over Norfolk State, Oklahoma, Creighton, USC and UCLA. In those five games, the Bulldogs have scored 83 points or more in every game. The Bulldogs have won their tournament games by an average of 19.6 points per game.

Suggs is the leader on the team, but he is third on the team in scoring. Corey Kispert and Drew Timme are both averaging just shy of 20 points per game, while Suggs adds over 14 per game. The Bulldogs rank first in the nation in field goal percentage, making 55% of their shots. Gonzaga is also 2nd in assists, with just shy of 19 per game.

Baylor Cuts Down the Nets

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are going to be a little warn out following their overtime win on Saturday. It was emotional and tiring to say the least. UCLA gave the Bulldogs all they could handle for 45 minutes. On the other side, Baylor ran away from Houston, and was able to rest some guys. This is going to be a great game, but it’s hard to imagine this game not going the direction of the Baylor Bears. Thg Big 12 gets a title, the trophy goes to Waco, and Scott Drew is a champion. The Baylor Bears +5 is the bet to make on Monday Night.
