Michigan State Spartans vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers – Tuesday, March 5, 2019, 6:00 PM
The Michigan State Spartans are once again a premier team in the land. Coach Izzo looks to be in top form as the games begin to mean a little more in his final interview for the coveted seeds in the national tournament. His team is clicking on all cylinders as they have now won five of their last six games.
The one game that they lost in that stretch, came at the hand of Indiana and by just one point. Nebraska has dropped ten of their last twelve contests. Included in that stint of bad performances was a recent game against these same Spartans. They dropped that game by a score of 70 – 64. I predict a similar result as the Spartans will take care of the Huskers 83 – 72.
North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Boston College Eagles – Tuesday, March 5, 2019, 7:00 PM
North Carolina has proven to be among the very best in the country, but to this point, they had been playing second fiddle to both Virginia and Duke in the ACC Conference. With Duke still ranked third in the country and Virginia at the number two spot, the Tar Heels are still playing that second fiddle, but they are a dominant team that could get hot right at the necessary time.
The Boston College Eagles have been of little resistance to the elite teams in the ACC this season and I doubt they will offer up more than an average defense for the high powered Tar Heels. Of their last 15 tries, the Eagles have come away with only four victories. Coach Williams sure hopes he can come away with yet another statement conference win. I say he does just that and takes a victory here against the Eagles by a score of 86 – 72.
Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Tennessee Volunteers – Tuesday, March 5, 2019, 8:00 PM
One of the very best college basketball teams will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The teams have faced off before as they are both in the SEC, but the Vols are simply put a better team. They are more athletic, have better depth, and their coaching is superior as well. I look for this one to be closer than most would think only because it is a bit of a conference rivalry.
Those rivalry games tend to bring emotions higher and you get to see some really dramatic play because of that fact. I, for one, am hoping that that is the case here. It would be a shame to see Tennessee either lose to the underdog right before the tournament where they will be a very strong seed or to win by a landslide and not get a competitive contest to watch. I’ll predict the Volunteers will win this one by a score of 75 – 68. It will be close, but not close enough for the Bulldogs.
Enjoy the games!
