San Francisco Giants @ Chicago Cubs
Jeff Samardzija has been stellar for the Giants as of late. Over his last 9 starts, he has posted an ERA just over 2. He’ll take the hill against the Chicago Cubs.
Entering the week, the Giants are only 3.5 games out of the second wild card spot. Although they got hot right before the trade deadline, and opted to keep Madison Bumgarner and Will Smith, the Giants have cooled off since then.
As for the Cubs, they have been great at home, posting a 41-19 record at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. Kyle Hendricks will be on the mound against the Giants. Hendricks is 4-2 with a 1.98 ERA in his 10 starts at Wrigley Field this season.
The Cubs hit the ball well at Wrigley and score a lot of runs at home. They’re in a dogfight for the National Central division, so every game is huge for them.
Cleveland Indians @ New York Mets
These two teams have been two of the hottest teams of the second half. Left for dead earlier this season, and looking to trade some of their big name players, the Mets changed course and added instead of subtracted at the trade deadline.
This sparked the Mets, and they have jumped into contention for a wild card spot. They’ll be facing a top American League wild card contender in the Cleveland Indians.
Noah Syndergaard, who has come to life in the second half, will be opposed by rookie Aaron Civale. Syndergaard has 25 strikeouts in his last four outings, he has a 1.65 ERA in those starts. The Mets were victorious in three of the four games that he started.
Civale, is 1-2 with a 1.50 ERA in four career starts. He doesn’t have overpowering stuff, but he has great command of the strike zone.
Both teams have made huge strides on the offensive end. The Mets have been led by Pete Alonso, while it has been more of a team effort for the Indians.
This should be a great series.

New York Yankees @ Los Angeles Dodgers
This could be a potential World Series matchup. These two teams have the two best records in Major League Baseball. There’s a lot of history between these two franchises, so this series should be exciting.
This will be a great pitching matchup, as the Yankees will send James Paxton to the mound, while the Dodgers will send their Cy Young Award candidate, Hyun-Jin Ryu to the bump.
The Yankees have one of the best lineups in baseball. Even with all of the injuries that they have suffered, the Yankees are still able to put up a lot of runs. DJ Lemahieu, Gio Urshela, and Gleyber Torres have been three of the unsung heroes of the Yankees offense. These three have been huge sparks for the Yankees, as they have missed Gioncarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and Edwin Encarnacion with numerous stints on the IL.
The Dodgers have been lead by National League MVP candidate Cody Bellinger. Bellinger, along with the Dodgers offense, has been able to lead the Dodgers to the best record in the National League. Combine that with a stellar starting pitching staff, and the Dodgers have a great shot at playing in the Fall Classic. If their bullpen can hold a lead, they should be tough to beat.
