2019 World Series Possible Matchups – July 19th Edition

Written by on July 19, 2019

It’s never too early to think about who’ll be representing the National League and the American League in the 2019 World Series. With the All-Star Break behind us and the trade deadline in just a few days, teams are trying to maneuver themselves into playoff position. Let’s take a look at some possible matchups for the 2019 World Series.

2019 World Series Possible Matchups – July 19th Edition

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Yankees

Rob Manfred would love for this matchup to happen. Two of the top television markets in the United States, tons of ratings, and huge markets. Major League Baseball would be thrilled to see this. The Dodgers have the best record in baseball, while the Yankees have the best record in the American League. Both teams have put up huge numbers offensively this season. The Yankees have a stacked lineup, while the Dodgers are led by MVP candidate Cody Bellinger. The Dodgers have a great starting staff, while the Yankees staff is decent, but could use an upgrade. The bullpen edge would go to the Yankees, as they’re loaded with power arms with strikeout capabilities. This would be a fun series to see. The history that surrounds this matchup would give us so many storylines. Clayton Kershaw pitching against the Yankees in a Game 7 in Yankee Stadium would make for must-see TV.

Chicago Cubs vs. New York Yankees

Another win for TV ratings and Major League Baseball. More historical storylines. The Cubs going to Yankee Stadium, while the Yankees traveling to historic Wrigley Field would make for an awesome series. We’ve already dissected the Yankees, now let’s look at the Cubs. Offensively, the Cubs are led by Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, and Javier Baez. Jason Heyward has been a huge asset for the Cubs offense this year as well. The Cubs starting pitching has fought some injuries this year, but when you put Jon Lester, Kyle Hendricks, Yu Darvish, Jose Quintana, and Cole Hamels against anyone, you have a pretty good shot. If the Cubs could find a way to get through the middle innings to get to Craig Kimbrel, they would be even more dangerous. A Cubs vs. Yankees World Series would have a ton of storylines and would have some great baseball.

Atlanta Braves vs. New York Yankees

Both of these teams dominated the 1990’s. The Braves only won one World Series, while the Yankees won multiple times in the late 90’s into the early 2000’s. The Braves have young sluggers and have had a great offensive season. Their starting pitching has been questionable at times, but the addition of Dallas Keuchel has helped to solidify their rotation. The bullpen has been a mess and needs some improvement. The young, up and coming team against the large market, big money squad. What fun that could be.

Chicago Cubs vs. Houston Astros

In 2014, Sports Illustrated predicted that the 2017 World Series would be the Chicago Cubs vs. the Houston Astros. The Astros did in fact win the 2017 World Series, but they didn’t play the Cubs. Houston has the firepower on offense, but they could use another starting pitcher behind Justin Verlander and Gerrit Cole. They have a solid bullpen as well. Both of these teams have lots of superstars that Major League Baseball would love to highlight.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Houston Astros

These two teams met in the 2017 World Series. Who wouldn’t want to see a Clayton Kershaw vs. Justin Verlander matchup in a Game 7?

Minnesota Twins vs. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Twins lead the Major Leagues in home runs and runs. What better matchup could we have than to see the stellar pitching staff of the Dodgers against the bashers from the Twins?

Chicago Cubs vs. Minnesota Twins

This midwestern matchup would be fun to watch. Some of the games young sluggers would be on display.
