Since the final game of the World Series ended, baseball fans have been anxiously awaiting Thursday, April 1. Opening Day is a sacred day for baseball fans, as the five months without meaningful baseball is finally over. Opening Day always has some great pitching matchups, as every team’s ace usually earns the first start of the season. Let’s take a look at some of the top games to watch on Opening Day so you can wager against their MLB odds.
Top MLB Opening Day Games To Must Bet
Tomorrow’s action will kick off in the Bronx, as the New York Yankees will host the Toronto Blue Jays. Gerritt Cole will throw the first pitch of the 2021 season. Cole is coming off of a 7-3 season. His ERA of 2.84 was a little higher than it had been in the past, but we’re looking for Cole to be back to his dominant self this season.
The Yankees lineup will once again be stacked. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, and Gleyber Torres will lead the New York offense. Aaron Boone’s squad shouldn’t have issues putting up runs this season.
Toronto has a squad that can contend in the American League East. Toronto has a great young lineup. They signed George Springer to be the leader of the team, but Springer will miss Opening Day due to injury.
Hyun Jin Ryu will take the mound for the Jays. Ryu finished third in the American League Cy Young voting last season. Ryu pitched well for the Blue Jays last season, and they’re looking for him to anchor the rotation this season.
Another premier Opening Day matchup will see the new-look New York Mets take on the Washington Nationals. The Mets changed ownership in the offseason, and the new owners decided to make some changes. The Mets acquired Francisco Lindor and Carlos Carrasco from Cleveland. The Mets were also in play for many big free agents.
Jacob deGrom will have the ball for the Mets. Many feel that deGrom is the best pitcher in the game today. deGrom has the ultimate combination of precision and power, and he just seems to get better every season.
The Washington Nationals will be trying to make a run at the National League East title this season. They have a very good lineup led by Trea Turner, and potential MVP candidate, Juan Soto. The National acquired Kyle Schwarber and Josh Bell in the offseason. These two will anchor the middle of the lineup for the Nationals.
Max Scherzer will face deGrom for the second year in a row. Between the two of them, they have a combined five Cy Young awards. Power and precision is what both of these pitchers are known for. Scherzer has battled injuries over the last couple of years, but he’s hopeful that he can return to his old self in 2021. If Scherzer can regain his old form, and the new Nationals lineup can put the ball in play, this should be a very good game. It’ll be tough for Washington, as deGrom has looked nearly unhittable over the past two seasons. This should be a great Opening Day matchup.
