With the trade deadline behind us, and all the teams gearing up for their run at the playoffs, Major League Baseball action will be heating up in the month of August. Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – July 5th Edition

Monday, August 5th

Miami Marlins @ New York Mets

What a difference a few days make. Before the trade deadline, the Mets were sellers. However, their trade for Marcus Strowman changed the Mets strategy and seemed to inject some life into the team. Now the Mets are the hottest team in baseball, winning eight of their last ten going into Saturday night’s game. The Mets have now climbed back into the wild card race, as they are just five games back of the Nationals who are sitting in the second wild-card position. The Mets look to continue their winning ways against the team with the worst record in the National League, the Miami Marlins. The Mets will be sending their ace, Jacob deGrom, to the hill against Miami. In his last four starts, deGrom is 2-0 with 36 strikeouts. With deGrom on the hill, the Mets will look to keep up their torrid pace and try to gain more ground on a playoff spot.

Atlanta Braves @ Minnesota Twins

In what could be a World Series preview, the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves travel to Minnesota to take on the American League Central frontrunners, the Minnesota Twins. Both of these teams will take the field behind their aces. Mike Soroka will be on the hill for the Braves. Soroka is 10-2, with a 2.36 ERA. He hasn’t pitched well in his last three starts, so the Twins will look to capitalize on his recent string of bad outings. With the Twins leading the Major Leagues in home runs hit, Soroka will try to keep the ball in the ballpark. Jose Berrios will take the mound for the Twins. Berrios enters the game with a 10-5 record, with a 2.79 ERA. He has won his last two starts while striking out 20. Berrios will try to contain the hard-hitting lineup of the Braves.

Friday, August 9

Cleveland Indians @ Minnesota Twins

What a week for the Twins. First, they host the Braves, and then the resurgent Cleveland Indians come to the Twin Cities. After a slow start to the season, the Indians have picked things up. At the time of this writing, they sit three games behind the Twins in the American League Central and are currently sitting in the second wild-card spot. The Indians, despite missing starters Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco to injuries/medical issues, and the trade of Trevor Bauer have made a huge jump in the standings. At the trade deadline, they improved their offense, and when they come to Minnesota, they’ll have their now-ace, Shane Bieber on the hill. The Twins will counter with Jake Odorizzi, who has been a surprise for them this season. Odorizzi, who has long been touted as a talent who never lived up to his potential, enters the game with a 12-5 record. This series will be huge for the playoff chase, and what better way to start it, than with a great pitching match up.
