With less than 15 games left in the regular season, the playoff races are coming down to the wire. Although some races are almost decided, there is still a lot of jockeying for position, and the Wild Card races are still up for grabs. Let’s take a look at some of the upcoming week’s top MLB Betting games.
Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – September 16th Edition
Wednesday, September 18 – Washington Nationals @ St. Louis CardinalsThe Nationals are sitting in the top Wild Card spot entering the week, leading the Cubs by 1.5 games, while the Cardinals are sitting atop the National League Central.
Both teams will be sending grizzled veterans to the mound, as the Cardinals will send Adam Wainwright to the mound, and Max Scherzer will throw for the Nationals.
Since returning from injury, Scherzer has yet to return to his old form. In his last four starts, he’s 1-1 with a 4.25 ERA. If Scherzer can regain his form from prior to his injury, he’s one of, if not the best pitcher in baseball.
Wainwright has been masterful in his last three starts, going 3-0 while allowing only one earned run. He has been a big contributor to the Cardinals great second half.
Thursday, September 19 – Philadelphia Phillies @ Atlanta BravesWhat a pitching matchup this will be, as Aaron Nola toes the rubber for the Phillies, while Mike Soroka will be on the hill for the Braves. Both teams will be sending their aces to the hill in a game that will have playoff implications.
Barring a miracle collapse, the Braves will win the National League East. Entering the week, the Phillies are still in the Wild Card race, as they are only 3 ½ games out of the second Wild Card spot.
Both Soroka and Nola have been shaky in their last four starts. Soroka has went 2-2, while Nola has gone 0-1. Nola pitched well in his last start against the Red Sox, striking out 9 in and getting the no decision in a loss to Boston.
Atlanta is looking to put the division away, while the Phillies are trying to stay in contention for the last playoff spot.
St. Louis Cardinals @ Chicago CubsThis series could decide the National League Central. What a pitching matchup this will be, as the red-hot Jack Flaherty will take the mound for the Cardinals, and Kyle Hendricks takes the ball for the Cubs.
Entering the week, the Cubs trail the Cardinals by 3 games. The Cubs are currently clinging to the final Wild Card spot with a one game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers. This series will definitely have an impact on the divisional as well as the Wild Card race.
Flaherty, a Cy Young Award candidate, has been one of the best pitchers in baseball during the second half of the season. Even though he lost his last start, he still struck out 10. Flaherty is the type of pitcher that the Chicago Cubs struggle with.
The Cubs have won the last five games that Hendricks has started. Hendricks is 6-2 with a 1.75 ERA in the friendly confines of Wrigley Field this season.
