Bellator 224 Odds, Preview & Expert Picks

Budd Back at It

Budd started her career in the Strikeforce Challengers series. In that series, she fought four times, going 2-2. However, those two losses came to arguably two of MMA’s best women’s fighters ever in Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes. Her loss to Rousey came in 2011, so since then, she has gone eight years without a loss. Since claiming the featherweight championship, she has defended her title twice. Her last title defense coming at Bellator 202 where Budd destroyed Talita Nogueira. In Rubin, Budd will be challenged by a very fierce competitor. The 29-year-old Rubin, who hails from Israel, comes into this fight with an unblemished record. Her biggest victory to date came over Cindy Dandois last November. Since then, she has fought at Bellator 217 where she defeated Iony Razafiarison. Rubin has dominated the competition in her time in Bellator. Budd likes to fight defensively. Four of her six Bellator victories have come via decision. She likes to wear her opponents out and then either go for the knockout or the decision. Rubin likes to be aggressive. She will need to pick and choose her spots and not let Budd catch her in a precarious position. If Rubin can land some blows, she will be in a position to win, but if she lets Budd grind this fight out, Rubin could be in trouble. In the co-main event of the evening, former Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Caravalho will take on Chidi Njokuani. Caravalho comes into the bout with a record of 15-3, whole Njokuani enters with an 18-6 record.

Caravalho Looking to Rebound

Caravalho enters this fight on a two-fight losing streak. After losing his middleweight title to Gegard Mousasi, he then lost his next fight to former UFC star Lyoto Machida. With a victory in this bout, Caravalho could earn a chance to fight the current middleweight champion, Rafael Lovato, Jr. Njokuani is also entering this fight coming off of a loss, as he fell to John Salter. Chidi hasn’t fought in eight months, so he should be well rested for this tough test. Caravalho will look control the fight with kicks to the body and legs and powerful strikes, while Njokuani will look to try to take Caravalho to the mat.

Looking Forward to Great Fights

Bellator 224 will be packed full of action and excitement. In their quest to compete with the UFC, Bellator has stepped up their game. They have been trying to recruit some of the world’s top fighters to rival their biggest competitor. In doing so, Bellator has put together some very exciting cards. Let’s hope that Bellator can keep this up!
