Vikings vs 49ers 2020 NFL Divisional Round Odds, Preview & Prediction

Written by on January 10, 2020

The NFC Divisional round will see the Minnesota Vikings traveling out west to take on the San Francisco 49ers. The Vikings are coming off an overtime thriller against the Saints in which they were able to pull off one of the biggest upsets of the weekend and will be trying to repeat that magic in this one. San Francisco is coming off a bye week as a reward for finishing with the top seed in the NFC. Let’s take a look at the latest NFL Odds while making some predictions.

Vikings vs 49ers 2020 NFL Divisional Round Odds, Preview & Prediction

Why Bet on the Minnesota Vikings?

There was a sentiment in the public that Kirk Cousins could not deliver in big games but did his best to dispel that notion. While the Vikings leaned on Dalvin Cook for most of the offense in the running game, Cousins was still able to deliver when called upon as he finished 19-30 with 242 yards and a touchdown and not turning the ball over in the process.

Dalvin Cook was the workhorse for the Vikings with 94 yards and two touchdowns, but look for that production to dip against the 49ers as they have one of the best front sevens in the NFL. Instead it will be Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielien that will be called on to produce.

Thielien had his best game of the season against the Saints after injuries and an all around poor season had many writing him off. He was key to setting up the final touchdown for Minnesota and had seven catches for 129 yards. Diggs will need to give more as he only had two catches but has gamebreaker potential. Who Richard Sherman shadows for San Francisco will be an intriguing matchup to watch.

The Vikings will look to Danielle Hunter to continue beating blockers off the edge and add to his 14.5 sacks this season. He will need former pro bowler Everson Griffen to provide some pressure on Garoppolo opposite him in order to make a difference. Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr are excelling at stopping the run and breaking up passes but will need to step up against a run heavy 49ers team.

Why Bet on the San Francisco 49ers?

The defensive unit for this team is loaded as they have three pro bowlers on the D-line. Dee Ford, Deforest Buckner, and Nick Bosa have wrecked opposing offensive lines all year as the trio has 23 sacks this year.

The linebackers should be healthy finally after Kwon Alexander should return to the lineup after missing the last eight games. Richard Sherman is enjoying a comeback season as a shutdown corner and will be tested in this game.

The George Kittle and Jimmy Garoppolo connection has been one of the best combos in the league this year. Kittle is a star at racking up yards after catch as 622 of his 1,053 yards have been this way.

Mostert, Breida, and Coleman form a true running back by committee in the backfield and have posed problems for defenses all year with their ability to catch out of the backfield as well.

Expert Final Prediction for Vikings vs 49ers

The Minnesota Vikings are being given plus-7 points as the underdogs on MyBookie but are facing the most complete team in football. The stout defense of San Francisco will shut down the Vikings running game which will force Cousins to pass the ball.

The D-line of the 49ers will prove to be the major x-factor in this game as they are too deep and can beat opposing linemen in every which way. I will be taking the San Francisco 49ers with the -7 to win this game.
