Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – January 13th Edition

Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche

The Western Conference has a logjam of teams at the 55 point mark in the battle for the second best record. The Blues are a comfortable 11 points ahead of both the Dallas Stars and the Colorado Avalanche but will have a chance to build momentum before the all star break hits next month.

The Stars have looked to be on a roll since the Winter Classic as they have won four of their last five games since. Ben Bishop has had a return to prominence in a bounce back season for the Stars. They play stellar defense and hope to keep the game low scoring and force a few home to beat opponents. That trend will have to continue against a talented Colorado team. The Avalanche are tied for the second best record in the West and have been riding the red hot play of Nathan Mackinnon in yet another all star season for the forward.

Colorado is reeling at the moment having lost three straight and eight of the last ten coming into this contest. Nazeem Kadri has seen a recent uptick in his scoring production despite the skid in the loss column. They will need to cut down on the amount of shots Hellebuyck faces in order to make a statement in this crucial game.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Boston Bruins

The Pittsburgh Penguins will take on the Boston Bruins in a battle of Eastern Conference elites. The Penguins have won their last three games and seven of their last ten in their ascent to the second most points in the conference.

They have done so this season despite injuries derailing most of the key players on the rosters seasons. Evgeni Malkin has been forced to step up as a result in what could be his final season. He will need to keep that uptick in production against a high powered Bruins squad.

The Bruins continue to be red hot as they have used a five game winning streak to push them into a tie with Washington for the most points in the Eastern Conference. David Pastranak is in the midst of his best season as a professional as he leads the league in goals for the first time in his career. Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron are chipping in on the top line for this Bruins team and are scoring goals because of it. Tukka Rask has also been lights out when forced to turnout shots this season.

Washington Capitals vs New York Islanders

Two of the Easts best will take the ice as in a potential Eastern Conference finals preview as the Washington Capitals take on the New York Islanders. The Washington Capitals are the leading point scorers in the NHL as they rely on the heavy volume of shots they are able to put on opposing goalies which allows for the physical forwards to hammer home rebound opportunities.

Alex Ovechkin is enjoying another stellar season in the goal scoring category as he paces the Capitals in goals and total points. Kuznetzov is scoring at a career rate this season as he will be an all star for yet another time this season.

The Islanders are winning because of their stellar goalie play. They have arguably the best goalie tandem in the league with a combined save percentage of 92 percent. New York has dropped several of their last few games but will have a chance to prove themselves against one of the powers in their conference.
