2019 US Open Women’s Quarterfinals Odds, Preview & Picks

(5) Elina Svitolina vs. (16)Johanna Konta

Svitolina knocked off American Madison Keys in the last round to advance to the quarterfinals. Svitolina has yet to drop a set in the tournament, and has used her serve and her shot-making abilities to advance. Svitolina is 1-4 all time in Grand Slam quarterfinal matches.

Konta won a tough match over Karolina Pliskova to get to the quarterfinals. Konta has the stamina to go three sets, as she has won eight of her last nine matches that went to three sets. This has been the year of the upset for Konta, as she has knocked off top-10 players seven times this season.

Svitolina is 4-0 all time against Konta. Svitolina has played well on hard courts, and has had very little trouble with Konta in the past. Konta will look to add another upset to her total in this one.

(8) Serena Williams vs. (18) Wang Qiang

Williams was dominant in defeating Petra Martic in straight sets to advance to the quarterfinals. Serena’s power game was too much for Martic to handle. Williams looks like she’s on a mission. She hasn’t won a Grand Slam this year, and she looks like she is primed to win the U.S. Open.

Qiang advanced by upsetting the #2 seed Ashleigh Barty in straight sets. Wang plays a defensive style of tennis, so she’ll cause her opponents to either make shots, or make errors. She also owns a very powerful serve, which can cause difficulties.

Qiang does own a victory over Williams, as she defeated her earlier this year at the Miami Masters.

Williams looks like she is on a mission. Qiang will have to play flawless tennis to knock off arguably the greatest women’s player in history.

(13) Belinda Bencic vs. (23) Donna Vekic

Belinda Bencic ended the #1 seeds chance of winning back-to-back U.S. Opens, as she defeated Naomi Osaka. Bencic has now defeated Osaka in four of their five meetings.

Bencic will now advance to face Donna Vekic of Croatia. Vekic advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Julia Goerges in a hard fought battle. Vekic survived a match point to move on to the meeting with Bencic.

These two met earlier this year at the French Open, as Vekic defeated Bencic in the third round of the Grand Slam.

(25) Elise Mertens vs. Taylor Townsend/(15)Bianca Andreescu

Elise Mertens disposed of American Kristie Ahn in quick fashion, as she defeated her 6-1 6-1. Ahn, who got into the U.S. Open as a qualifier, had her Cinderella run ended by Mertens.

Mertens will wait for the winner of American Taylor Townsend and Canadian Bianca Andreescu. Coming into their match, Andreescu has won 11 of her last 12 on hard courts. Townsend has momentum on her side, as she is coming off of a huge upset of Simona Halep.
