The Los Angeles Rams are an American professional football team based in the Greater Los Angeles area in the state of California and competes in NFL as a member of the American Football League West Division.

The Rams were founded in 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio, as the Cleveland Rams, one of the original teams of the NFL’s rival league, the AFL, before joining the NFL in 1937. In 1945, the Rams won their first NFL championship. Seeking a larger market, owner Dan Reeves moved the team to Los Angeles in 1946, becoming the first major professional sports team on the West Coast.

The Rams made several playoff appearances in the 1970s and in 1979 reached Super Bowl XIV but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers. After struggles with attendance and stadium issues, owner Georgia Frontiere moved the team to St. Louis, Missouri, in 1995, where they became the St. Louis Rams.

In the early 2000s, the Rams experienced a resurgence under head coach Dick Vermeil and quarterback Kurt Warner, known as “The Greatest Show on Turf,” won Super Bowl XXXIV in 1999 and reached Super Bowl XXXVI in 2001.

In 2016, the Rams returned to Los Angeles playing at the newly constructed SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California after a 21-year absence.

The Rams has cultivated some heated rivalries even though their bouncing between cities:

The "Battle for Los Angeles" is the Rams vs. Chargers intra-city clash, nicknamed “El Clasico” by fans, has become particularly intense since the Chargers’ return to LA in 2017 and sharing SoFi Stadium adds another layer of competition.

A "Rematch of the Decades" is the Rams vs. 49ers rivalry that spans eras and locations (St. Louis Rams vs. 49ers), is one of the oldest and most intense in the NFL’s NFC West division.

A "Fading, but Feisty, Foe" is the Rams vs. Cowboys rivalry holds historical weight and is dubbed as “America’s Team” vs. “The Greatest Show on Turf,” their clashes were particularly exciting in the 1990s and early 2000s.
